Tariff Selection and Tariff Settings

Your energy tariff

You always have the freedom to choose your type of energy contract. To get the most out of FlexiO, it is more beneficial to switch to a dynamic contract. FlexiO can ensure that you inject or take-off power at the most optimal times, allowing the same system to generate more savings.

What is a dynamic tariff?

Your digital meter records how much power you take-off or inject back to the grid every 15 minutes. A dynamic tariff calculates the price based on the same interval. Your take-off or injection is billed every interval according to the market price at that time. The electricity you take-off at 7:00 PM today will be billed based on the market price at 7:00 PM today.

With a dynamic tariff, you pay the price that is valid when you take-off xenergy or receive the price that is valid when you inject energy. The opportunity is that you can shift consumption to cheaper moments. The risk is that you might take-off more during expensive moments.

With a non-dynamic tariff, your actual consumption profile is not used. Instead, your consumption is divided according to a standard profile: a single average profile used for the entire market. This default profile is the same for you, your neighbors, the bakery on the corner, or the café in the town square. If you take-off most power at 7:00 PM today, the grid operator assumes you take-off that electricity according to the standard consumption profile — a fraction at 7:00 PM itself, but also at other times.

With a non-dynamic tariff, you don’t pay for when you actually took off but for what an average user would haven taken off. There is no opportunity because it assumes you use energy the same way as an average user.

Listing of your energy tariff

You have understood correctly: the listing of your energy tariff in the FlexiO account is very important.
Your energy tariff is a key parameter for FlexiO. It is the basis for intelligent control and the calculation of savings.

The installer records your energy tariff during the activation of the FlexiObox in the FlexiO account. If this changes later, you can update it via your MyFlexiO app.

Fixed tariff

For your energy off-take or injection, FlexiO uses a fixed price. The price to be entered is for energy only, excluding network charges, levies, and taxes (these are calculated separately by FlexiO).

You can indicate whether your meter is a single or double variant (with peak and off-peak hours).

Variable tariff

A variable tariff is based on the wholesale market price over a longer time (typically one or three months). As the exact formula differs per supplier, and sometimes the market price is not known beforehand, FlexiO uses an average value.

You can indicate whether your meter is a single or double variant (with peak and off-peak hours).

Dynamic tariff

The tariff is based on the day-ahead wholesale market. Actual prices are known the day before around 13h00, but FlexiO also makes a prediction for future days.

You also have to choose the time interval: 1 hour, 30 minutes or 15 minutes.

Dynamic tariff time interval

Since October 2025, the time interval for a dynamic tariff can be either 1 hour, 30 minutes or 15 minutes. This means that the price changes every 1 hour, 30 minutes or 15 minutes (until then, only 1 hour was available on the market).

What time interval is used for your tariff depends on the electricity supplier and the contract. Some suppliers changed all contracts at the same time, some do it when the contract is renewed, some have not supplied information yet.

The suppliers for which we have information:

  • Engie: when your contract is renewed (so you have to update it manually in MyFlexiO)

  • Ecopower: switched on October 1st 2025 (all FlexiO installations were updated)

  • Trevion: switched on October 1st 2025 (all FlexiO installations were updated)

  • EBEM: switched on October 1st 2025 (all FlexiO installations were updated)

  • Energy Knights: you can choose between 15min and 1h contracts (so you have to update it manually in MyFlexiO)
