Fronius

This integration guide is compatible with the following Fronius products:

  • Fronius Symo GEN24

  • Fronius Primo GEN24

1. Modbus support

The following communication types can be used to connect the inverter to the FlexiObox:

(option 1) Modbus TCP: Ethernet

Connect to the inverter using the local ethernet or Wi-Fi network.

(option 2) Modbus RTU: RS485

Connect to the inverter using the White Dongle [LMFS].

By default the Modbus communication is disabled and needs to be enabled using the user interface: see section 2.

2. Enable Modbus

Fronius inverter user interface

Access the inverter user interface

  1. Touch the optical sensor at the front of the inverter once to activate the WLAN access point.
The right LED flashes blue when the access point is open.

  2. Connect your laptop / tablet / smartphone to the now available WLAN network “fronius_3xxxxxxx” (network key: 12345678).

  3. Enter the following IP address in the address bar of your browser (e.g. Google Chrome): “192.168.250.181”.

  4. Open the web interface of the inverter

  5. Select the “Communication”

  6. Open the “Modbus” menu item

(option 1) Modbus TCP:

  1. Activate “Slave as Modbus TCP” option

  2. Activate “Inverter control via Modbus”

  3. Set “Modbus port” to “502” (default)

  4. Set “Meter address” to “200” (default)

(option 2) Modbus RTU:

  1. Under “Modbus RTU interface 1”, select “SLAVE” option

  2. Activate “Inverter control via Modbus”

  3. Set “Baud rate” to “9600” (default)

  4. Set “Parity” to “None” (default)

  5. Set “Inverter address” to “1” (default)

  6. Set “Meter address” to “200” (default)

3. Wiring

You can skip this chapter if the inverter is already connected to the local network and thus communicates with FlexiObox through Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
Otherwise, please follow the steps below.

(option 1) Modbus TCP:

Connect the FlexiObox using the local network.

Follow the manufacturer’s instruction guide how to connect the inverter to the local network using ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Both inverter as FlexiObox must be in the same subnet (local network).
Read also FlexiObox and basic netwerk understanding

(option 2) Modbus RTU:

Connect the FlexiObox using RS485 using the White Dongle [LMFS].

Remove the inverter cover as described in the manufacturer’s instruction guide.
Pull out the Modbus terminal block connector from the communications board.
Crimp a RJ45 connector on one end of an UTP or S/FTP cable with the proper length, following the T568B standard.

On the other end of the S/FTP cable, connect:

  • the blue wire to the inverter M1+ terminal

  • the blue/white wire to the M1- terminal

M0 port can be used if the M1 port is not available.

Plug the RJ45 connector into the White Dongle [LMFS]
