The True Cost of Energy

In short: FlexiO calculates all external costs associated with energy use and trading in Belgium, ensuring real net value for the user. It factors in taxes, grid fees, energy losses, battery degradation, peak tariffs, and negative prices to optimise energy decisions with true cost-awareness.

Intro:

One important factor often overlooked by EMS providers —or simply unknown to them due to local variatons— is the wide range of external costs that come with energy usage and trading.

Since FlexiO is built in and for the Belgian market, we’re uniquely equipped to calculate every single one of these costs. That means FlexiO only takes actions that create real, net value for you as an end user.

Examples of the costs FlexiO accounts for:

As you can see below, there are a lot of costs involved in energy optimisation! We’ll explain these costs in a quick breakdown:

(tick) Energy taxes and DSO + TSO costs:
These costs you can see on your energybill. The purely cost of energy is about 40% of the actual cost! Even, this DSO and TSO costs differ per city, FlexiO exactly knows what costs there are on what place in Belgium and at wich energy supplier!

(tick) Energy losses and battery degradation:
Every time we charge or discharge your battery, there is a cycle cost for your battery because it derates. Same with energy losses, if you for example charge 1kW from the grid, you will never get 1kW out again! Energy losses are between 8-18% depening on the battery and surrounding conditions!

(tick) Peak Tariff:

Peak Control - Capacity Tariff

(tick) Negative prices:
